The French Shoe Designer

By the end of World War fashionable women around the world are hungry for a touch of romance and whimsy in couture. The Great Depression and war years had seriously crimped the ability of the designer wear clothes that were far more than just functional to produce. Watch a Hollywood movie of the time and you will see the suits and dresses actresses wore almost masculine cut and style were. Forced after the Second World War and the hardships that people had to endure, women wanted to dress in a feminine, flattering style. This led to the great age of French designers and the emergence of haute couture houses.

Notable among these giants was the way classical stylist Christian Dior. Dior knew instinctively what women want, and more importantly, how elegant, flattering the female form. His postwar collections quickly became a craze among the fashion conscious women around the world. The House of Dior created a classic feminine look, cinched waists, the, full skirts, tailored jackets and promotes vibrant colors and rich fabrics.
